Tips for the Best Autumn House Relocation in London

posted: 22nd October 2018

Having to change homes in the autumn in London is a bit tricky. The weather conditions are not so great, the constant rain can damage both your health and your belongings. In order to have a fast and uneventful house moving you need to make some preparations in advance. We have gathered some of the best autumn moving tips to help you go thru this stressful process.

Autumn House Moving “Musts”

Every season has its specifics and there are a couple of factors, you need to take into consideration. During the Autumn months, a lot of things can go wrong not only because this season is colder but because it is the prelude to Winter. This means that you need to think at least two steps ahead while planning your house relocation.

  • Autumn house removals to LondonHeating. The number one concern is the indoor heating system. Make sure to check if everything is working properly in your new place. You don’t want to sit in the cold the first couple of days after the house relocation.
  • Cleaning. You already know, you need to clean your new home, but take special care with the gutters, drains and windows. Your home needs to have proper ventilation and good isolation throughout the winter.
  • Repairs. Before the moving date comes, you need to check all the windows and doors in the new place. They need to work properly to assure your home won’t suffer major health loses during the winter.
  • Protection. You don’t have to worry about snow just yet, but the rain is a different story. Be very careful not to pack wet items and keep moisture out of the transportation boxes.
  • Safety. While we are on the topic of damaged property, speak to your moving company about insurance. The risks are higher in the cold months than in the warm ones.
  • Plants. If you are moving with plants, avoid leaving them in the moving truck for more than a couple of hours. They might freeze. Take them with you in the car, if possible. Consider collecting cuttings, just to be sure you can grow them again.
  • Health. Remember to pack basic cold medicine in your hand luggage. Autumn and the common cold walk hand in hand.

Autumn House Relocation – Organisational Tips

Planning a house moving is not easy. So many things could go wrong. Organising an autumn relocation is even more challenging.

  • Planning an autumn house removal to LondonTraffic. The traffic conditions in London in the cold months are even worse than those in the peak of tourist season. The rain is forcing lots of people to use their cars, and the congestions are constant. When planning your house removal, be smart, and try to organise the transportation for the weekends. This way you won’t lose so much time stuck in traffic.
  • School. The new school year starts in autumn which means you need to prepare are all the documentation for your child’s new school in advance. It is important to have good organisation and not to skip more than a week of lessons.
  • Packing takes longer. This is a fact, autumn and winter packing takes more time because you need to wrap more tightly your possessions. If not properly packed, your belongings can suffer a severe dose of mould and mildew. And nobody wants that. Try to start preparing boxes and materials at least a month and a half before moving date.
  • It is not cheap. If you have decided to move in the autumn, you need to calculate your expenses in advance. Generally, autumn and winter relocations are more expensive than those performed in the warm months. Plan carefully and research your options concerning the moving company, packing materials, transportation, etc.

House Removals in the Autumn – Packing Tips

Autumn house move to LondonPacking is without a doubt the most important stage of the house moving process. There are a couple of requirements that need to be checked to have a smooth home relocation.

  • Don’t cheap out on packing materials. You will need plastic sheets and bubble wrap if you want to protect your belongings. Do not use tablecloths or any kind of fabric as a wrapping material when it is raining outside.
  • Use labels on the boxes. Try to avoid sharpies or markers because if the box gets wet there is a possibility the ink will get transferred to the nearest surface.
  • When packing the cardboard boxes first place your belongings in plastic bags, seal them and then place them in the box.
  • Order reusable plastic containers. They are safer than the cardboard when it comes to protection against water.
  • Wrap tightly your furniture in plastic sheets and secure them with tape. All edges must point to the ground to avoid the creation of “water pockets” if they get wet while loading in the truck.
