Moving days are known to be tough, and bad weather and rain can only make moving even harder. This is why today here at Top Removals we aim to provide you with some great tips to enable you to move house easily and efficiently in the rain with minimal problems, should you have no other option.

Since the majority of people moving house start their planning and preparation at least a month in advance, they cannot be certain of what the weather is going to be like on the day of their move – Because of this, people must ensure that they are prepared for all situations and weather conditions. Keep on reading to find out how!

Top Tips

Checking the Weather:

Checking the weather forecast every day during the week leading up to your move will enable you to hold at least a vague idea of what to expect. This should give you enough time to make some additional preparations! Be sure to check the forecast on two or more weather website to so you can get a more accurate idea.

Packing your Belongings:

No matter what the weather is going to be like, it is vital that you start packing at least 2-4 weeks in advance to your move, and on our blog you can find a range of posts which will enable you to pack in the most superior ways.  However, if you think that there is even a small chance that you are going to be moving in the rain, the following steps should be followed:

  • Use a good quality packaging tape to efficiently conceal your boxes, leaving no gaps for rain to get inside
  • After everything is packed up, you should use a waterproof material such as stretch wrap to protect your belongings from moisture –especially things such as mattresses and art work which won’t be in boxes
  • If you have boxes which absolutely cannot get wet all, make sure that you label these so that your movers know to take extra special care

Protecting your Family:

The protecting of yourself and your family is of utmost importance. Here are a few ways that you can keep safe:

  • If there is a thunderstorm you should wait until it is passed until you move – especially if you have to haul large metal items
  • Make sure that you and your family are wearing weather appropriate clothing, including but not limited to raincoats and rubber boots
  • Use cardboard cut-outs to walk on to avoid slipping – both when leaving your current home and entering your new home
  • If you are driving, be sure to take your time and be cautious. Be aware that your journey will probably take longer when it is wet
